Introduced in 1983, the Rolex GMT-Master II reference 16760 marked a significant evolution in the history of the iconic GMT collection. Featuring a sapphire crystal and the newly developed calibre 3085, it introduced an independently adjustable hour hand, allowing the wearer to track up to three time zones.
Affectionately nicknamed the “Fat Lady” or “Sophia Loren” by collectors, in reference to its distinctive, thicker case, the 16760 was exclusively offered with the striking red and black “Coke” bezel. Today, it remains a highly distinctive reference, celebrated for its historical significance and unique place in the GMT-Master lineage.
This particular example stands out for its beautifully faded bezel insert, with the original black having turned to grey and the red developing a rich burgundy hue. It is further enhanced by a stunning “Spider” dial, whose aged lacquer has developed a delicate network of fine cracks, creating a distinctive pattern reminiscent of a spider’s web.
