Vacheron & Constantin Historique "Ultra-Fine" - SOLD
Vacheron Constantin is often considered a member of the "Holy Trinity" of Haute Horlogerie watches, alongside the two other historic and high-end brands Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet. These brands are indeed specialized in complicated watches, but also in flat and ultra-flat watches, which in itself constitutes a major complication for the design of a movement.
This particular model from the 1960s is a true technical achievement. The mechanical hand-wound movement 1003 that equips this watch is based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 849 (1.85 mm thick), but it has been modified to make it even thinner, at only 1.64 mm! Thanks to this extreme thinness, the case and the glass are only 5 mm thick. The watch then seems to almost disappear on the wrist, but with great delicacy and elegance.
The opaline dial is of unparalleled purity and symmetry, with fine baton indexes and the presence of just two hands, bringing the reading of time to its greatest simplicity.
This piece is mounted on an alligator strap that features the original Vacheron Constantin pin buckle. What further complements this refined watch is that it comes with its original box and papers, which is rare for a watch from the 1960s.
