Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 6263 "ROC" Brown Counters - 104.000€
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is undoubtedly the most coveted Rolex, regardless of its generation. It is also a watch that has broken records during auctions, notably at Phillips in 2017 with the very own reference 6239 "Paul Newman" of Paul Newman, which was sold for about 17,752,500$.
The reference 6263 is mainly recognized by its screwed pushers (which provide additional security) and the black bezel. Speaking of the bezel, it is a tachymeter scale made from bakelite/plexiglas.
This example features the highly attractive silvered dial configuration, its subsidiary registers having aged beautifully from their original black tone to a distinctive matte grey-brown hue. The resulting contrast gives the watch considerable character and immediately sets it apart from more conventional examples.
Of particular interest, the dial is devoid of the celebrated “Daytona” designation. Collectors commonly refer to this configuration as a “ROC” dial, an abbreviation for “Rolex Oyster Cosmograph”, reflecting the wording retained on the dial in the absence of the Daytona signature.
The combination of the silvered surface and naturally tropicalised subsidiary registers creates a highly appealing and individual appearance. Such ageing is especially prized when it remains even and coherent, giving the dial a warm, understated character while preserving the strong graphic identity associated with early Rolex Cosmograph chronographs.
