Patek Philippe, already renowned for the Nautilus – an iconic sports model introduced in 1976 – sought to expand its offerings with an even more contemporary, bold, and accessible watch. While the Nautilus was admired for its distinctive design, it remained relatively exclusive and classic. The Aquanaut was thus created to meet the needs of modern luxury sport enthusiasts.
 

The Aquanaut stands out with a design inspired by the Nautilus, featuring an octagonal case with subtly rounded edges. However, it also has unique characteristics, such as its composite rubber strap (a synthetic material resistant to salt, UV rays, and tearing), which gives the watch a sporty and contemporary look. Nicknamed "Tropical" for its resilience in extreme conditions, this strap was an innovation for the brand. The Aquanaut's dial also features a unique checkered pattern, adding a dynamic and modern touch. Initially available in a 36 mm version, the watch quickly evolved to include larger versions, such as the 40,8 mm or 42,2 mm models, better suited to current trends in larger men’s watches.
