Omega Speedmaster "Ed White" Decimal Bezel - 17.000€

  • The Omega Speedmaster "Ed White" is a highly revered model among vintage watch collectors, named after astronaut Edward H. White, the first American to conduct a spacewalk.

This reference is particularly notable for being one of the last Speedmaster models before Omega introduced crown guards on later references. This design distinction is prized among collectors for its clean, uncluttered look.

The 39.7 mm steel case features straight, symmetrical lugs and is equipped with the legendary hand-wound mechanical caliber 321 which gained iconic status as the movement inside the Omega Speedmaster watches that accompanied NASA astronauts on some of the most significant space missions, including the first moon landing in 1969. Its robust construction and reliability made it the perfect choice for the harsh conditions of space. The caliber 321 was eventually phased out in 1968 in favor of the caliber 861, which was easier to produce. However, its legacy continued to grow, and in 2019, Omega reintroduced the 321, meticulously recreating it to match the original specifications, much to the delight of collectors and enthusiasts.

The dial is in a superb state of preservation and has a magnificent patina. The applied logo and the "step" dial bring a beautiful depth and relief to this dial.

The bezel is a vintage "decimal" version which allows reading hundredths, it was available on request by Omega, but they have become very rare today.

The watch comes with two Forstner bracelets, one of which is a vintage one, which were supplied at the time for NASA and astronauts.

The case back with the "seahorse" logo is in exceptional condition with still deep engraving, which shows little or no polishing. The watch also comes with a 32-page book (from the authors of the Moonwatch Only book) giving all the precise informations about the watch as well as many photos attesting to the quality of this piece which is undoubtedly a great collector's item in the world of Omega Speedmasters.
