Heuer Carrera "Belgian Air Force/LuM-FAé" - 14.000€
The inspiration behind the name Carrera is itself the subject of legend. In 1962 Jack Heuer attended the 12 Hours Race at Sebring in Florida, where he heard mention of the notorious , a perilous Mexican race that took place in the 1950s. The elegant, dynamic name sparked Jack Heuer’s imagination. On returning to his native Switzerland, he promptly registered the name Heuer Carrera, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The first generation of the Carrera, the reference 2447, was launched at the Basel Fair in 1963. Designed by Jack Heuer himself, it was introduced as an entirely new style of chronograph designed specifically for professional drivers and racing enthusiasts. The original design was influenced by Jack Heuer’s love of modern art and architecture as much as his passion for racing. Inspired by mid-century masters like Eames and Le Corbusier, he imagined a watch with a ‘clear, clean design’ and absolute legibility that would meet the needs of motor racing with clarity and flair. The result was a timepiece that embodied the values and aspirations of a new generation, combining contemporary aesthetics and ground-breaking functionality with unparalleled elegance.
This model does not have the "Carrera" inscription on the dial but it does have the case and the shapes of the model. It is equipped with the Valjoux 7733 chronograph movement with manual winding.
In 1970, the Belgian Air Force ordered between 250 and 350 (according to estimates) examples of this legendary chronograph with a magnificent matte black dial and large tritium Arabic numerals, typical of military watches. This is an important element for optimal readability. The case back is engraved 70/036 LuM-FAé for Luchtmacht-Forces Aériennes.
