Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" - 40.000€
The Royal Oak is one of the most famous watchmaking icons whose stories have become myths.
Designed in one night by Gérald Genta, the first Royal Oak model was presented in 1972 at the Basel Fair, after two years of development. This extraordinary watch elevated steel to a new status. By introducing the notion of "casual chic", it opened a chapter in the history of Audemars Piguet and the whole "Haute Horlogerie" world. Lately, starting from 1977, it was available for the first time in precious materials: yellow gold, white gold and two-tone.
This model plays on the contrasts and reflections between yellow gold and steel. The version is equipped with a slate dial with the iconic and legendary "Petite Tapisserie" guilloché motif with yellow gold indexes and hands. This configuration remains unchanged in the catalog from 1978 to 1985.
876 pieces were made in two-tone, making this model a rare watch. More than the steel version which was made in 4288 pieces.
Inside the watch beats the 2121 calibre which is one of the most iconic extra-thin automatic movements. Born in 1967 from a collaboration between Audemars Piguet, LeCoultre & Cie and Vacheron Constantin, this ultra-thin automatic mechanism was manufactured and perfected for over 50 years.
